Anyone got an opinion on the cheap #Perixx keyboards?
I got a Cherry Stream keyboard for a relative, but it's miserable to type on because the individual keys are all tapered, not squared off like classic "MacBook"-style keyboards.
And I really don't care for/about the classic 2007 MacBook style keyboards (that became the default everystinkingwhere), I was just trying to get a keyb that was low profile, tenkeyless, tactile, and affordable.
P.S. Forget about Perixx. I just realized it isn't tenkeyless, but rather 45% or whatever you call it. Miserable for office use. Still looking for recommendations. Might take the plunge on a keychron.
@lebout2canap @silvermoon82 I only know of some #Perixx #trackpad|s that use #USB, and by comparison to #Apple they are atrocious.
Anyone know a supplier for #dvorak keyboards? I used to buy them from #perixx (German) but it looks like they don’t make them any more.
Yes, I know I can move keycaps around and file the home lumps flat and add ridges to the right keys etc., or add stickers, but happy to buy them too.
Some keyboards have a different switch fitting on the F and J keys. No joke! Found that a few times in the past.
I only need to ‘see’ them when editing because I’m mouse clicking and correcting errors, not touch-typing. (Author)

@ginaintheburg yes, #Blietooth has security issues.
#Perixx offer some with a #trackball that don't break the bank or wrists...
@qlp personally, I wished @frameworkcomputer would give #SprinTek a call and get themselves some #TrackPoint instead of the #TrackPad as an option.
They can't call it #UltraNav either but what about #SmolNav or #ProNav or something.

THIS is why one has to #try out key switches and #ThinkBeforeBuy in terms of what one desires from a #keyboard.
This person would've been happier with like a MX brown or otherwise silent yet tactile switch instead of some loud blue or red switches, or a good quality rubberdome if not continue to use some #scissor-style "#laptop #keyboard" from like #Perixx or some other quality brand.
So I receontly wrote about my new keychron V10 (ISO DE, tactile, https://keychron.de/products/keychron-v10-alice-layout-qmk-custom-mechanical-keyboard-iso-layout-collection?variant=41259606081673). By now i modified my keymap and am very happy with the typing experience. I got used to the alice layout quickly - but i am no hardcore fast typist.
Now my employer gave me some budget for another keyboard and after quite a bit of research i decided to get a perixx periboard-335 (ISO DE, clicky, https://de.perixx.com/products/periboard-335-compact?variant=48202562535689). After just a few minutes with the periboard i have some issues:
+ i forgot that i ordered clicky switches, they are kailh low-profile which i heard are probably the best low-profile clickies i could get. I occasionally like clickies and they feel alright and sound like clickies. Nothing wrong with them.
+ negative tilt of the board is awesome, feels great for me
+ materials feel nice and do not attract fingerprints
+ no rgb
- when you use negative tilt, you will immediately notice the sharp edges of the wrist rest. Build quality issues?
- fixed USB-A Cable which is cringe
- stem wobble (which is weird because the low-profile switches don't have stems)
- overall light weight and kind of flimsy
- not modifiable
- no (!) accessories in the box (makes sense: no hot swap, keycaps highly specific for this board), even mac/win specific keys are on the same keycap
- no QMK/VIA support
On the other side the keychron:
+ nice tactile, pre-lubed switches
+ quite good thocky sound
+ with wrist rest feels good for me (- keychron did not have the correct wrist rest in stock but the shorter one for alice keebs without macro keys is fine)
+ easy to do light modifications
+ nice weight and materials
+ solid accessories package
+ pleasant keycaps (looks AND feel)
~ nice long USB-C-to-A detachable cable
~ usable back light/RGB
- no negative tilt
Opinions are subjective so YMMV and so on, I will run the periboard through some more tests in the future, but my preference is clear.
