https://kion546.com/news/2025/05/13/new-concerns-comes-as-bike-safety-becomes-an-issue-in-salinas/ Reminder to people who bike on sidewalks in the Monterey County seat and its largest city, Salinas. Sidewalk riding is generally allowed in Salinas, except where signs give notice it is prohibited. But it must be done with due caution and reasonable speed, and the person biking must yield to pedestrians and give an audible signal before overtaking and passing. May 2025 is the 16th Anniversary of Bicycling Monterey, Monterey Countyโ€™s Local Partner of the California Bicycle Coalition / #CalBike.

Our favorite #BikeAdvocacy task is direct outreach by bicycle! The 16th anniv gallery https://bikemonterey.org/16th-anniversary-gallery-bicycling-monterey-may-2025.html is a sampling of people we met each of the past 16 years.

Among them: #PeopleWhoBike for #transportation, recreation, who bike to #protest rallies, bike to #FarmersMarkets, bike to #surf, #BikeToSchool and #BikeAndRide for a #DadAndDaughter date, #BikeToWork (and yes, pedaling in a business #suit is no problem for him), #HandCycle bike to exercise the #dog, bike to #travel long distances / #BicycleTouring.

Over 70K people attended the 4-day Celebration of Cycling in Monterey County this month, Sea Otter Classic.

Our Bike Buzz, Special Edition shares the viewpoints of some of those people, in four posts โ€” including youth, women, first-time and long-time attendees, people speaking languages other than English, and people visiting from other countries:

In our opinion, all #PeopleWhoBike are โ€œ#cyclists.โ€

Good article, though weโ€™d have edited out โ€œโ€”whoโ€™s not a cyclistโ€”.โ€ That was jarring, at odds with rest of piece. @Bicycling @bicycling-magazine-Bicycling

Among updates last night to Winter Bike Buzz are photos of people we met on the coastal trail February 16: Wyatt, Adalina, Chris, and more. https://bikemonterey.org/bike-buzz-winter-2025.html

Pictured here is Wyatt, an employee of California State Parks, Monterey. Wyatt rides a Class 2 e-bike and is a great role model for sharing the trail courteously and safely with other people who bike, walk, skate, and scoot.

When you pause to chat with people who bike๐Ÿšฒ, you see and learn things you miss when someone is in a car.๐Ÿš™ For starters, we learned that this gentlemanโ€“who took off his sunglasses๐Ÿ˜Ž for our conversationโ€“has beautiful blue eyes. ๐Ÿ’™We also learned that he happens to be Christian and attends Calvary Chapel Monterey. He showed genuine โœ๏ธChristian humilityโ€“and his name happens to be Justin Humble! Thank you to Justin for being a good steward of the earth ๐ŸŒŽby reducing carbon emissions every time he bikes๐Ÿšดโ€โ™‚๏ธ for transportation! BTW, we were able to give him a heads up about a beautiful, peaceful rest stop for people out biking or walking nearby โ€“ the Jay Bartow Memorial Garden at First Presbyterian Church, 501 Eldorado, Monterey. Garden details in new post: https://bikemonterey.org/people-who-bike-justin-humble.html
