When people and groups work together, the results can improve Waterloo Region for *everyone*, not just people who ride bikes.

There's a lot more to be done, but it's great to see how the progress is making a difference.

We hope our infrastructure continues to develop and other cities follow suit 😀🚴🏼‍♀️❤️

The thing people are missing in regulations about #eBikes batteries being UL listed or whatever qualification, is either you require #RightToRepair #OpenSource firmware, specs, and logic, or you lock customers into an anti-competitive proprietary black hole that captures the regulatory apparatus and all hopes of safety or accountability with it. #PeopleForBikes

#Oxford has been ranked only the ninth best city for #cycling in the UK by American advocacy group #PeopleForBikes. Cambridge was in first place, followed by the London boroughs of Hackney, Islington, Newham, Waltham Forest, Southwark and Westminster, then Edinburgh. Oxford’s score of 79/100 was calculated from an automated Bicycle Network Analysis assessing routes to common destinations. reports the #Clarion.

"The small city of Hailey, Idaho, for instance, experienced a staggering single-year jump of 53 points, rising to a total score of 77 and technically outpacing the top-ranked large city on the list, thanks in large part to an effort to drop speed limits as low as 15 to 20 miles per hour on many of its streets.”

Which American Cities Are Becoming Bike-Friendly the Fastest? — Streetsblog USA

America has a new most bike-friendly city — but fast-improving communities across the country are hot on its heels.

Finally, as a reminder, Cambridge, Ontario, isn’t part of the rankings. That still feels like an omission that should get corrected! But the nearby city of Guelph is a part of the rankings. So let's see how they did in 2025.

The 2025 network score jumped from 37/100, to 53/100. So, not as good as either Kitchener or Waterloo, but that’s a nice jump year-over-year.

The 2025 network score increases slightly from 63/100 to 64/100. That’s 1 point less than Kitchener’s 2025 score! It's still awesome to cycle in Waterloo, of course!

Last week, we looked at the 2024 version of the PeopleForBikes “Best Places To Bike” city rankings. Now let’s have a look at newly-released 2025 results for the cities in Waterloo Region. First up, check out Kitchener 😀🚴🏼‍♀️

The 2025 network score sees a big jump from 50/100 to 65/100. Great to see! The jump mIght be due to 40km/h speed limit on all residential streets, and updates to OpenStreetMap data that reflects that.
