SylvhemHey fellow nerds, do you know if I can just swap a Pentium 133 with a Pentium 166 MMX without having to change the VRM on the motherboard? Based on the following table, I’m not so sure: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pentium_(original)#Models_and_variants.
EDIT: After doing some digging and trying to remember what I found when I last looked at that question, I came to the conclusion that no, it’s actually not possible. So’ll be looking for a replacement VRM module as well.

Good to know in 2026 the "use a pencil to short" is still viable.
I wanted to replace the 30yr old loud fan on my Pentium Overdrive 83Mhz, which down clocks to 30Mhz if it doesn't detect a fan. Found a 3D printable shroud that works with pogo pins, but couldn't get it to sit on the pads properly (hence all the scratches in the photo).

So screwed a 40mm fan into the heatsink, connected it to the motherboard fan header, drew a line with a pencil from ground to sense, and voila.
I like this option as I can easily revert back to the original fan and I can swap it out for any 12v fan easily if needed.
