#Penrose #Tiling is a fascinating geometric pattern discovered by physicist Roger Penrose that covers an infinite plane completely without ever repeating itself.

Instead of traditional translational symmetry, it possesses a unique five-fold rotational symmetry and forms structures known as quasicrystals, which mirror patterns found in rare natural minerals.

XKCD 3242 is titled "The aperiodic table" and looks like this: Which is cool, but it's not aperiodic like a Penrose tiling . So, with a li...

Going to see what Penrose had to say about physics, the universe, the human mind and AI in 1989. The 80s was also a time of AI hype and promises of replication of human intelligence "within a few years". I know the book is speculative and flawed, but that's part of what makes it interesting. I think the central thesis is that human consciousness is not algorithmic and cannot be replicated on Turing machines. #Penrose #AI #Book

#KnowledgeBit: The #Penrose #Stairs are a two-dimensional optical illusion that depicts a staircase that forms a continuous loop. The stairs make four 90-degree turns as they ascend or descend.

When viewed from a specific angle, it gives the illusion that the stairs are continuously ascending or descending. However, the structure is physically impossible to exist in three-dimensional space.
