Choices, choices... What commedia dell'arte shall we bring to Pennsic 53 this July and August?

Next month we return to Ohio State University for a Middle Ages & Renaissance history conference. Several years ago we debuted "The Hazards of Hunting Red-Caps", a fairy funny commedia dell'arte farce! It was the start of a successful run across four states. While we have staged this at Pennsic, we expanded the scenario into a larger cast bawdy version specifically for the PA Tent stage or possibly a private camp. Could Pennsic 2026 be the year the foolish fae return?

Choices, choices... What commedia dell'arte shall we bring to Pennsic 53 this July and August?

Next month we return to Ohio State University for a Middle Ages & Renaissance history conference with a farce about space travel in the Renaissance! But this isn't our first "traditional" commedia dell'arte with "science-fiction" elements. And perhaps we'll do another "time travel" play. Pennsic is now exactly four months in the future - and could we have already debuted "The Fabricated Future of Fabritio" at Pennsic 53 in that timeline?

Follow us and check back often for more updates on potential plays and our eventual selection!

One should always expect to get wet sometime during Pennsic. Usually it's from the rain but if you're a Spanish captain... Should we premiere the long-awaited "The Captain & the River", a farce of faithful love, vengeful ghosts, and wet clothing inspired by one of Flaminio Scala's historic scenarios!

March 23 is Talk Like Shakespeare Day! The famous playwright was very influenced by commedia dell'arte including the fanciful commedia pastorale. Here is a line from the witches in the "Scottish Play" (ACT IV Scene 1) that... well if you love performing and merriment could be seen as motivational!

"Come, sisters, cheer we up his sprites,
And show the best of our delights:
I'll charm the air to give a sound,
While you perform your antic round." --William Shakespeare

Next month we return to Ohio State University for a Middle Ages & Renaissance history conference; two years ago for this same event we premiered our sports-themed commedia dell'arte "A Comedic Farce of a Fraudulent Cow in Calcio Fiorentino" with a possible plan to "play ball" again at Pennsic in 2026!

(premiered at Cleveland ConCoction earlier this month) and "Arlecchino, Emperor on the Moon" (premiering at Ohio State University next month) plus a to-be-decided additional play. We hope to provide some private camp entertainment again as well!

March 16 is Act Happy Day! Sometimes we can bring joy to ourselves and others by enacting the motions and activities that bloom happiness. Our often said motto in the troupe is to make the world better one laugh, one smile at a time!

"Let us be grateful to people who make us happy, they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom." --Marcel Proust
