Tonight is the anniversary of the 1981 Penlee lifeboat disaster, when the Solomon Browne was lost with all (volunteer) hands attempting to rescue the people on the Union Star in appalling weather. Please remember them and donate to the #RNLI if possible.

Perhaps you're old enough to remember the #Penlee #lifeboat disaster, which happened 41 years today? A crew of 8 volunteers set out in #RNLI's "Solomon Browne" in hurricane force winds & 18m waves to rescue the crew from a boat whose engines had failed & was drifting towards rocks.

Despite heroic attempts, 16 lives were lost.

I was just 11 yrs old when this disaster happened and I often still think about it and these selfless, brave souls. It angers me when I see the negative posts about the #RNLI #PenleeLifeboat #RIP

Today we remember the eight extremely brave, fearless and selfless lifeboatmen, all sons of Mousehole, who made the ultimate sacrifice on the 19th December 1981.
