Check out DM Tales if you want excellent, honest, and in-depth reviews!! Wes' channel is awesome and we're going to do a charity game on Oct 22nd for those affected by hurricane Helene, so make sure you're subscribed to watch me make a fool of myself live!
Plus Pendragon is an awesome game and I want it on my shelf someday soon!!!
@deinol "Hey kids! You know who's most likely to want to buy this book? The GM! Do you know who we are definitely going out of our way not to include content for, in this book? The GM!"
I can't see that as anything but particularly dumb choices. You don't release a new edition to encourage the people with the most investment in running the game to buy the old edition. It's not really a supportable choice at either an audience or a business level. And I am rather horrified and shocked to see that's the decision they made. You can reasonably argue that mass battles aren't the core of the Pendragon experience. I could support that. But you can't say GM advice guides to how to run the game as it's written in the current edition is not part of the core experience of Pendragon.
How they want to play is enough of the game that they paid for in one book to play the game. What the GM should be doing in terms of how to play the game is part of how to play the game. I know this is crazy, but there it is.
There’s a (probably small but loud) contingent that is upset that the new Pendragon core rules doesn’t have absolutely everything in it. Particularly a bestiary, GM advice, and mass battles.
I’d argue that, while those are nice (and if you really need them grab the PDF/POD older versions), they have provided everything you need to play. If you need an example of what a GM should be doing, there is The Grey Knight adventure.
Go play how you want.
