Performed Qing Ming (or Cheng Beng as we Hokkiens call it) early April in Poh Tay Temple, Penang. It's a yearly ritual I look forward to and I help my parents do it by being their travel operator 🥲

Many of my ancestors spirit tablets are here. But when I asked what year my ancestors came to Malaysia, my relatives couldn't answer. I say it's safe to say we've been here in Penang for two centuries.

My cousins belong to the Khoo clan, who has a grand ol clan house on Penang island. The Tai family is not as well known or prestigious 🤭

Do any of you have accomodation recommendations for #singapore, #penang or #KualaLumpur? Ideally we’re after places under SGD250 a night and that other than Penang are near train stations. I’ll be travelling with my parents who are older and may want to spend more time in the hotel so not super basic is also preferable

Wenn das auch mal für die Strände gelten würde, nicht nur für die #Schiffe und #Boote. Aber dass alles mit Plastik zugemüllt ist, ist irgendwie ein Naturgesetz, dem man halt beikommt, indem man jeden Morgen mit Traktoren die Strände für die Touris glatt zieht. (Das war zumindest 2016 mein Eindruck, vielleicht ist das jetzt viel besser?) Der ganze Müll stammt natürlich nicht nur aus Malaysia, sondern wird vom #Meer an die Küsten geschwemmt.
Na ja, aber heute ist das Thema ja "Klar Schiff", da soll der #Strand auf dem Foto natürlich einigermaßen sauber aussehen.

If only the beaches were as shipshape as the #boats and #ships. But beaches strewn with plastic seem like some cruel law of nature that's "managed" by sending tractors to smooth them over at dawn for the tourists. (At least this was my impression in 2016. Maybe it's a lot better now?) Of course, not all the litter originates from Malaysia. Much of it washes ashore from the #ocean.
But today it's all about "shipshape", so this #beach, from this perspective, is mostly litter-free.
