Galveston police officer kills pedestrian in early morning crash

Houston street conditions contribute to fatalities as well as health problems among children, study finds

Twenty-one children in Houston died while using active transportation modes such as walking and cycling between 2018-23, according to a recent study by Rice University's Baker Institute for Public Policy. The study authors noted that hazardous road conditions for children likely are contributing to a national trend in which kids have become considerably less active.

The city of Hoboken, New Jersey has had no traffic deaths in the last four years. Here in Connecticut, three pedestrians were killed in West Hartford – a comparably-sized city – last year alone. Add to that the three people killed in a two-car crash on Christmas morning, the truck driver who perished in a seven-vehicle collision on I-84 at the beginning of December, and a motorcyclist left dead back in March after he struck a car at the intersection of Trout Brook Drive and Lawler Road.
