Flashback to yesterday - little people on bikes

These munchkins are who we’re fighting for. Consider counting for #PedalPoll2023 on Saturday, June 10, or next week (to make up for smoky skies this week).

Repping my @bikeottawa gear at #PedalPoll2023! I counted 86 cyclists, 207 pedestrians, 1895 private vehicles, and 118 oversized vehicles on Danforth Ave at Victoria Park. The bike mode share was consistently around 4% throughout my count and the pedestrian mode share averaged 9%.

Results!

The rules are a bit stupid, as they asked us to count e-scooters as personal vehicles. So read “car” as a “non-pedalled mobility device”, i.e. e-scooters and electric unicycles.

The #Ottawa #OttBike #OttVelo #PedalPoll2023 is gaining momentum with about 40% of shifts filled - but we need YOUR help to make this a success. If you’re willing to spend 2 hours counting all modes of traffic next week, you can help us learn more about #cycling and #ActiveTransportation in the city. There are 26 locations across the city. This initiative is part of a NATIONAL poll, led by velocanadabikes.org, and the results will be used to learn more about who cycles, and where. Possible shifts are during commute hours, midday, and the weekend. Survey spots are the same as last year’s, found on this map: https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1MBDTZ64KDBAEyJetgMK4H0qq8lkW2q5X For more info and to sign up: https://velocanadabikes.org/pedalpoll/

Velo Canada Bikes is doing #PedalPoll2023 in #Ottawa again this year. You can sign up here to participate https://velocanadabikes.org/pedalpoll/volunteer-to-count/ - but may have already received an email if you were signed up last year (check your spam!). The counting locations are the same as last year, but rather than counting cyclist descriptors, we will be counting other users at the location as well (pedestrians, and vehicle types too). The count will be June 6-11. I hope you can join! #PleaseShare #OttBike #OttVelo #CitizenScience

Calling everyone who cycles in #Canada! Pedal Poll/Sondo Vélo is back again for 2023! This year, we’re switching things up to count bicycles, pedestrians, personal vehicles and oversized vehicles like buses and trucks. We’ll use the Counterpoint “easy traffic count” to do this. Dates are any fair weather day between June 6-11. More information here: https://velocanadabikes.org/pedalpoll/

Pedal Poll/Sondo Vélo

Pedal Poll/Sondo Vélo 2024 is taking place June 4 to 9. The count is a chance to evaluate the state of cycling in our communities. Together we get a “snapshot” of what cycling looks like in communities across Canada, at the same time, year over year. The data collected helps build the case for more, and better, cycling infrastructure. This growing data set is there for everyone to use to advocate for access to safe cycling choices for everyone, everywhere.
