This is the well-named Pectoral Sandpiper. You'll be able to recognize them by the way they strut around at twice the size of the little peeps they hang out with with that chest-forward "I just came from the gym" swagger.

A few shots from yesterday's Jamaica Bay (NY) Shorebird Festival. The event featured a few birding walks, this one around the National Wildlife Refuge's marshy and extensive South Pond. Unfortunately, most photos were taken from rather far away. I'm including a fuzzy shot of a Red-necked Phalarope, which was over 300 yards away, because who knows when I'll see one again. Very cool birds - a pelagic shorebird. Also shown: a Blue-winged Teal couple, Pectoral Sandpiper, and Broad-winged Hawk.

Focusing on processing the photos of Horned Larks yesterday means that I only got to take a closer look at my shots of "Sandpiper sp" this morning. I've got a strong feeling it's Pectoral, which would be another lifer.
