Undertook a Nightjar Survey for the RSPB last night at a place I didn’t know (even though it’s closer than some sites I often visit).

I saw a fabulous sunset..... a superb view of a meteor breaking up..... a male and female Nightjar flying around my head constantly as the light disappeared... and then a 93% Waxing Gibbous moon.

Sometimes you’re lucky!

A slow stroll around one of the Pebblebed Heaths this morning and quality birding. Dartford Warbler, Yellowhammer, a pair of Bullfinch were the highlights along with Slow Worm and Adder. I'm sure you'll forgive the wobbliness of the slitheries photos 😂

I had some chores to do today but as I was passing Aylesbeare Common I thought I'd have a quick walk.

As I was snapping a Grayling butterfly I saw a movement behind it - a Common Lizard! Plenty of #Grayling about as well as Gatekeeper.

Its been a little rainy here today and I thought that I would grab a little time on a local Common thinking that the birds might be more active when it stopped. I was right! Not only did I come across a Spotted #Flycatcher (which would have made it a special visit) but a #Grasshopper Warbler too. Which made it very special!!

A walk around Aylesbeare Common this morning. It was definitely a more butterfly than a bird day. Red Admiral, White Admiral, Green Hairstreak, Grayling, Gatekeeper, Ringlet, Holly Blue, Speckled Wood, Holly Blue, Silver-washed Fritillary & Brimstone as well as an Emerald Damselfly. A nice bunch of people from the Local Group of the RSPB too.

Up on the East #Devon Commons last night. I love that moment when you hear the first ‘churrr’ of a Nightjar of the evening. Even better when two of them fly past you in the dimpsy light. I’ve not heard any wing-clapping this year though.
