Medieval peacocks were often shown displaying their magnificent tails which they were said to raise whenever they were praised. This image is from a 13th century English Second Family bestiary. #medievalmanuscripts #medievalbeasts #peacock #peacocks
Medieval peacocks were said to have voices so terrible that it caused fear in the listeners when the bird cried out. This image is from a French bestiary (c1240) which included "De avibus". #medievalmanuscripts #medievalbeasts #peacock #peacocks
Medieval peacocks were understood to be male and different from the female peahen. Both birds are shown in this image from a French version of "De animalibus" dated around 1350. #medievalmanuscripts #medievalbeasts #peacock #peacocks
The medieval peacock was said to have flesh so hard it didn't rot and could hardly be cooked in a fire or digested by the liver. This lovely peacock is from a 1425 version of "De rerum naturis". #medievalmanuscripts #medievalbeasts #peacock #peacocks

We found a house today with an ostentation of peacocks.

I had originally guessed "gallantry of peacocks" as the collective noun, which sounds pretty good to me. But Grammar Monster tells me the correct term is 'ostentation', 'pride', or 'muster' of peacocks.

These were hanging around a local neighborhood house. The guys with the big tails would rattle the feathers every now and again. Also, a peacock's call sounds a lot like a goose.
