DrDLuxon's slow decision to decline the invitation to sit on Trump's "Peace" Board just reinforces his ambivalent moral compass, and lack of strategic common sense and decisiveness.
Why?
- The Board is dominated by authoritarian regimes with terrible human rights records. It's a club you don't want to be a member of.
- The Board is both a Trump vanity project and grift: Trump has the final say, is Chair for life, pockets the $1B joining fee. Its whole structure & foundation is corrupt.
- Many of the other western democracies that NZ compares itself with already declined (UK, Canada, France, Germany, the Nordics). The decision to decline should've been straightforward given the prevailing western democratic response.
- Domestically, the backlash would've been extreme - and yet it took him several days to reach the only sensible decision. #PeaceBoard #Trump #NZPol
