Der Tod riecht hier nach feuchtem Holz. Genauer: Nach dem Holz eines Sarges in frischer Erde. Hier verschluckt der Boden jede Hoffnung. Kein großes Westernkino, kein Mythos von Eroberung – nur Matsch, Regen und die Leere einer Welt, die nur von Gewalt zusammengehalten wird. Selten habe ich einen Western gesehen, der so sehr nach einem alten Friedhof aussieht. Vielleicht, weil hier ein Ire auf die Gründungsfantasie Amerikas blickt und ihr alle Illusionen nimmt.
