Over 2,000 people packed into the historic Riverside Church in New York on Monday to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Democracy Now! The program included a reading by legendary singer Patti Smith from her new memoir Bread of Angels, in which she remembered the U.S. peace activist Rachel Corrie, who was killed by Israeli forces in Gaza in 2003 while trying to protect Palestinian homes from destruction. Corrie inspired Smith’s song “Peaceable Kingdom,” which she performed alongside Tony Shanahan on guitar and her daughter Jesse Smith on piano.

Democracy Now!

From the beginnig of 1976 on the album "Horses" was moving our bodies and souls over and over again - it was the soundtrack of our life until in November "Radio Ethiopia" hit the streets - another banger of pure energy, rage, poetry and despair.
Patti Smith was the hero of the looming Punk-Era at least for me.

Today she is - as always - protesting against the latest US-war - "Radio Baghdad" was one of the strongest statements against the attack on Iraq 23 years ago - showing solidarity with Palestinians whose history is a long and winding road of pain and tears
commemorating Rachel Corrie who has given her life to the conviction that liberation is possible.

Celebrating 30 years of Democracy Now in the midst of a tsunami of unbelievable hubris - Donald "Very Strongly" Trump" - and the death cult of racist masculinistic supremacy - Pete "Wannabe Warrior" Hegseth - laying waste to everything dear, vulnerable and preservable - be it just because it has no chance in a world of murderous aggression.

Tra i pezzi più celebri che verranno eseguiti non mancheranno 'Horses', 'Easter', 'Dancing Barefoot', 'People Have the Power' e 'Because the Night'.

Patti Smith will perform at the Circo Massimo in July.

AGI - Patti Smith, following the success of last year’s world tour to celebrate ‘Horses’, is returning to Italy for another special event: to celebrate together with the Italian public her 80th birthday. The appointment is scheduled for July 27th next in Rome, at the Circus Maximus. The concert is organized by the Teatro dell’Opera in collaboration with Vincenzo Berti and Gianluca Bonanno for Ventidieci. Accompanied by the Patti Smith Quartet, the singer-songwriter will be accompanied by pianist and bassist Tony Shanahan, her collaborator for over thirty years, and guitarist Jackson Smith, son of Patti and Seb Rochford on drums.
Among the most famous pieces that will be performed will not be missing ‘Horses’, ‘Easter’, ‘Dancing Barefoot’, ‘People Have the Power’ and ‘Because the Night’.
Born in Chicago on December 30, 1946, Patti Smith is known worldwide as a performer, songwriter, record label and visual artist. Her first album ‘Horses’, published in 1975, was included in 2010 in the National Recording Registry of the Library of Congress by the National Recording Preservation Board. In 2005, the singer-songwriter was appointed commander of the Order of Arts and Letters by the French Ministry of Culture, also for her reworking of the work of Arthur Rimbaud and in 2013 the Bryn Mawr College of Philadelphia awarded her the Katharine Hepburn Medal, a recognition reserved for women who contribute to changing the world with their lives.

The mood is #Indigo

Matik, “Indigo” from Rhythm Science (2004)

Rhythm Science is a print and audio project by Paul D. Miller aka DJ Spooky that Subliminal kid (as it states right there on the cover), who penned a slim volume, a kind of manifesto/wordscape for electronic music production via #DJ sample culture, and assembled an accompanying CD compilation of tracks full of sounds from the archive of Belgian label #SubRosa that traverses that territory.

The track that first got my attention was a spoken word piece by #PattiSmith over electronic washes of sound. There are also some atmospheric cut-and-paste sample-fests that you’d associate with #DJSpooky. Prominent names such as #BillLaswell and #LeeRenaldo of Sonic Youth appear here, and others I would call ‘genre-famous’ like #Oval and #Seefeel - and a piece by #Debussy with warm crackly vinyl noise, tying it in with the #turntablism theme.

This track by Matik bubbles with suggestions of #dub, feels like #ambient but pulses with rhythm and features repeated melodic phrases, flirts with #ElectronicGlitch but rides on an undercurrent that remains smooth.
