Uno degli attori più amati e indimenticati della produzione, Patrick Dempsey, che ha indossato il camice del Dr. Derek Shepherd, ha rivelato cosa ha comportato quel grande successo nella sua vita. Di certo la fama lo ha portato a diventare più “casalingo perché ha davvero limitato la nostra capacità di socializzare”.
Dempsey è entrato a far parte del cast di “Grey’s Anatomy” nella prima stagione, andata in onda nel 2005, e ha lasciato la serie con un colpo di scena scioccante nell’undicesima stagione. In un’intervista pubblicata lunedì 16 marzo, l’attore oggi sessantenne ha parlato con The Hollywood Reporter più di dieci anni dopo aver lasciato “Grey’s Anatomy”.
“Credo che, nel fervore del successo di Grey’s Anatomy, la nostra possibilità di socializzare e di avere un po’ di privacy sia stata limitata, e questo ci ha costretti a stare molto più a casa – ha detto Dempsey parlando di sé e della sua famiglia -. Sono una persona molto più casalinga. Sono consapevole della mia responsabilità quando esco. Voglio essere presente e, se qualcuno mi si avvicina, voglio assicurarmi di interagire, parlare con loro, salutarli o fare una foto”.
E ancora: “A volte è molto difficile uscire con la famiglia, perché potremmo trovarci in un momento intimo e a volte le persone oltrepassano il limite. Non lo fanno per essere maleducate, ma è molto difficile. Fa parte del ruolo che si ricopre, come personaggio pubblico, e bisogna accettarlo, e col tempo l’hanno fatto”.
I suoi figli, ha aggiunto, ora “capiscono il ruolo e, quando escono con me, apprezzano molto di più cose come ‘Cosa è importante quando si esce?’. A quest’età stanno imparando. È meglio di quando erano più piccoli”.
Dempsey è riapparso nella serie nel 2020, durante una sequenza onirica nella première della diciassettesima stagione.

Dempsey joined the cast of “Grey’s Anatomy” in the first season, which aired in 2005, and left the series with a shocking twist in the eleventh season. In an interview published Monday, March 16th, the 60-year-old actor spoke with The Hollywood Reporter more than ten years after leaving “Grey’s Anatomy.”
“I believe that, in the fervor of Grey’s Anatomy’s success, our opportunity to socialize and have some privacy was limited, and this forced us to stay home a lot more – Dempsey said, speaking of himself and his family. “I’m a much more homebody. I’m aware of my responsibility when I go out. I want to be present and, if someone approaches me, I want to make sure I interact, talk to them, say hello, or take a photo.”
And again: “Sometimes it’s very difficult to go out with the family, because we might find ourselves in a private moment, and sometimes people cross the line. They don’t do it to be rude, but it’s very difficult. It’s part of the role you play, as a public figure, and you have to accept it, and over time they have.”
His children, he added, now “understand the role and, when they go out with me, they appreciate things more like ‘What’s important when you go out?’ At this age they are learning. It’s better than when they were younger.”
Dempsey reappeared in the series in 2020, during a dream sequence in the premiere of the seventeenth season.
