Le pouvoir compte sur notre découragement. Les manifs se dispersent et les grèves s'essoufflent. Le ciment de nos républiques, ce n'est pas l'adhésion, c'est la résignation. Les affaires d'un pays sont rendues trop complexes pour être intelligibles à tous ses citoyens. C'est ainsi qu'on les dirige. On voit bien, en France, particulièrement depuis la dissolution d'il y a un an, l'ampleur du mépris de ceux d'en haut.
Je veux regarder avec vous trois docs qui disent ce qui se passe quand les peuples ne se laissent plus endormir, quand la réalité est devenue trop terrible et trop absurde.

The Coup d'état (El golpe de estado; 1976)
and Popular Power (El poder popular; 1979).
In 1996, Chile, Obstinate Memory follows Guzmán back to Chile as he screened the banned three part documentary to Chileans who had never seen it before.
