Patricia Barber - Medium Cool

I still don't understand why Medium Cool is considered the "lesser" of Barber's "big four" albums (that is, Café Blue, Nightclub, Companion and this LP, Modern Cool) - it's got a great selections of tunes, both original and covers, a great band, great performances and fantastic sound.

This new Impex release knocks it out of the park, with an amazing pressing (at Fidelity, on "VR900-D2 Super Vinyl", which is *so* quiet).

Patricia Barber - Companion

Starting out with two covers, Barber delivers a 1-2 punch of great performances and arrangement.

She then pivots to originals until a final cover of Black Magic Woman.

This is (as you'd expect) immaculately recorded, and done so live with an audience.

The Impex one-step re-release is up to their very high standards. I think I prefer Impex’s approach and results to UHQR - it'd be interesting to A/B…
