An idyllic scene - a group of relaxing Damaya, or something more fey-oriented?

Artwork of the Goddess Athena (by Taregh D. Saber / TSaber, on Deviantart). In many ways, Athena is a good archetype for Damaya Outriders. Defender of the City. Goddess of Wisdom, particularly Wisdom in Warfare.

As usual, the armor depiction presents interesting details and challenges. I despair of ever finding a suitable transverse crest to protect antennae. The armor looks a little light, IMO. I'd like to see either a pteruges kilt or some kind of tasset-like harness to protect the thighs. Also, based on my own reenactment combat experience, I'm a big fan of forearm protection, and she only has one armband.

The double-headed spear intrigues me, especially since the heads are of sufficient sturdy that they could be used not only for thrusting, but cutting and slashing. Practically, however, such a double-headed weapon would take a lot of effort to carry - one would not wish to plunk a sharpened blade point into the ground when resting. There's a reason spears have butts.

I haven't done much with this thought yet, but it makes sense that, on a jungle world dominated by giant trees, ape-like species may thrive.

There was a period in pulp fantasy when great apes, carnivorous apes, ape-men, and beast men throve as the preferred foe-fodder. The best remembered relic of that trope is the four-armed giant apes of Mars, from ERB's John Carter / Barsoom series. Then Professor JRRT brought Orcs and Goblins into vogue, and a lot of that got swept away.

If you wished to make an ape-like species a major feature of your world, what would you do?
