Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger swiftly reshaped the University of Virginia’s board, appointing 10 new members and removing five Trump-era appointees from her predecessor’s tenure. This move follows over a year of partisan clashes—highlighted by efforts to oust university President James E. Ryan for supporting diversity initiatives and recent controversial agreements with the Trump administration to restrict diversity programs and impose new admissions policies. Spanberger’s actions aim to realign the university’s leadership amid ongoing ideological battles over its future direction. If you hate this meme: is it the template, or the message? Or is there somewhere else I should post this question?

I recently made one of my best memes yet, but people on piefed/lemmy have hated it so far across multiple communities.

I’m seeing 2 reasons people might hate it:

  • The format: it repurposes the Morpheus red pill / blue pill template, but with the red and blue being code for the US 2-party system, instead of the actual truth vs lie choice from the Matrix.
  • The message: it includes that recklessly endangering people by blocking vaccine access doesn’t stop being bad just because you’re the one doing it, and that recklessly endangering people by blocking gun access is also bad.
  • A lot of people are telling me the negative reactions might mainly be for reason 1. It also might be making the message itself more confusing for people.

I think it’s more of reason 2, with piefed/Lemmy just having a high concentration of partisan Democrats, who just don’t want to let me have a gun, and don’t want to be reminded they shouldn’t be helping Republicans block my access to vaccines.

If you hate the meme, which is it for you? Or is it something else entirely?

If this isn’t the right community for this question, let me know where to take it

Still looking for the right community for this meme

I get the vibe “lefty memes” is a misnomer, and an actual progressive like me won’t be accepted here, so I’ve never tried posting anything in here yet - but everywhere else I’ve posted this so far has hated it, so I’m trying here now.

I made this meme because I noticed parallels in how Republicans and Democrats coordinate to block access to guns and vaccines, violating my rights and putting me and my loved ones in senseless danger.

I’m not quite ready to give up on finding a community where people like this meme. I know it’s actually one of my most well-crafted ones yet, no matter what some people say.

Still looking for the right community for this meme

I understand political memes are prohibited here, but my last meme was borderline political and people liked it. This one is more directly political, but every community I’ve posted it in so far has hated it, so I’m trying here.

The same way people who outnumber me are willing to get me or my loved ones killed by violating our rights with these ongoing (and worsening) gun and vaccine bans, they’ve also been willing to mass downvote me and respond with psychological abuse in all the communities I tried posting this in so far. Nobody wants to just straightforwardly say “fuck your life, how dare you try to escape slavery, we want to work corporate jobs and vote for politicians and wipe out all known life including ourselves, we’re not gonna listen about how you should be allowed to have guns and vaccines for some dumb shit like your safety when part of our cult’s whole deal is that everything should die, you might as well tell us to take individual action on climate change.” They have to play mental games about it instead.

But I feel like if I keep looking, I might be able to find somewhere on here that those people don’t have such an overwhelming majority, so I’m still trying to find the right place to post this.

I don’t know if political memes are allowed in this community. So far, I’ve mainly just gotten psychological abuse for posting this. I’m usually braced for this stuff after a past of over a decade on reddit, but some of the responses have gotten to me a bit.

    That’s enough venting, sorry.
