My sister found some old fountain pens that belonged to my grandfather and passed them on to me. I've got a whole blog post worth of info about researching them and where my grandfather was when he was gifted them based on the engraved bases, but for now here's a picture of the first one, a Parker 51 desk pen from around 1960.

If anyone has tips or recommended resources on carefully cleaning vintage pens, I'd love to hear about it! The bladder is still squishy but I don't know if it'll hold ink or anything yet.

Seguimos con los #juevesdeestilograficas. Hoy toca una pluma que me regaló @eolica. En esta santa casa nos encantan las Parker 51 viejunas (salvo cuando toca limpiarlas, que es un dolor). Esta en concreto tiene mínimo más de medio siglo a sus espaldas en base a la datación hecha a ojo por el color y el mecanismo de llenado. Además es un objeto con historia porque tiene grabado el nombre de su anterior propietario. No creo que este le diese demasiado uso porque está impoluta y el flujo de tinta es perfecto. La tengo cargada con una tinta azul de Sailor que me encanta pero se ha mezclado con la verde de una carga anterior porque como ya he comentado limpiar bien este modelo roza lo imposible.

Richard Binder suggests shimming a loose #Parker51 (#FountainPen) connector with very thin stainless steel.

I did this once. My first advice is cut the stuff with scissors rather than a hobby knife. You’ll make a mess with a knife.

But I was not satisfied, anyway. I came up with better: Use #polyester as your shimming material! This is available in varying thickness, specifically for use as shimming.

It doesn’t absorb water and presumably is immune to iron gall.

I have a small collection of #fountainpens. I use them for my #writing. My favorite is a #Parker51. I thought a #ParkerIM would be a good addition, but it has been disappointing. I had a cheap P51 clone which was excellent until it wasn't. I stumbled on the #WordsworthBlack. Nice price. Good heft. 5 cartridges and a converter. It's a medium but I think it's finer than that. So far it seems a good addition to the rotation.

There's nothing like a cup of #coffee, a fountain pen and lots of paper.
