As per German custom, kiddo (2.5yo) got their Christmas presents today. My father had bought some presents, so we didn't get anything ourselves.
They got a doctor's kit which is really cute. It's made of wood and has lots of parts that tie in with what the kid already knows about medicine (e.g., a little hammer to trigger the patellar reflex, a medical thermometer, a syringe).
My father dredged up a doll from my childhood. It combines the face of a newborn with a length of hair that would take years to grow. What a weird thing! I loved it a lot back then but I'm not keen about it any more. But the doll acted as the patient and, after having been treated for all conceivable ailments, went back to sleep.
The kid also got a traffic-themed playmat plus some cars and lorries. The rug was made by a Belgian or Dutch company. I hope that the kid won't be too disappointed when they find out that there are much fewer bike lanes in the outside world of their current country of residence.
