Justus made a great intro on using #DGGS through #xarray #xdggs at the #Pangeo showcase talk. Xdggs is now in a stage where you can use it fairly robustly with #HEALPIX and #H3. Other integrations like for #DGGRID are developed as separate plugins.

Pangeo Showcase: "xdggs: using discrete global grid systems with xarray"

Title: “xdggs: using discrete global grid systems with xarray” Speaker: Justus Magin (ORCID: 0000-0002-4254-8002) When: Wednesday, December 4, 2024 at 4 PM EST Where: Launch Meeting - Zoom Abstract: Discrete Global Grid Systems (DGGS) are innovative spatial reference systems that provide a systematic spatial subdivision of spherical or ellipsoidal objects. Unlike traditional latitude and longitude grids or unstructured meshes, the object’s surface is recursively subdivided into equally siz...

Introducing EO-Tools a python EO toolbox focused on SAR

Thanks for mentioning PyGMTSAR! To give a brief comparison: EO-Tools relies entirely on Python packages (though some, like GDAL, may have C/C++ core functions), while PyGMTSAR depends on GMTSAR, which is a specialized InSAR software fully written in C, although it only uses specific functions from it. The two tools serve different purposes. EO-Tools is designed as a general-purpose tool for pre-processing SAR data, making it easy to combine with other sensors like optical data (there’s even ba...

🌍 Xarray + DGGS = XDGGS: Making Geospatial Data Easy 🌐

The development of xdggs was initiated by the #Pangeo community and started at #BiDS’23 as part of the OSGeo code sprint. Special thanks to Stefanie Lumnitz for making it possible!

If you are at FOSS4G Europe, don’t miss our presentation:

ISPRS-Archives - XDGGS: A community-developed Xarray package to support planetary DGGS data cube computations

So #Microsoft is retiring the #PlanetaryComputer Hub, which allowed you to do quite advanced analyses using standard #Python packages. I guess we can run it elsewhere, and this was always on the cards, that's why using a standard #pangeo setup was good, but as with all things cloud, it's infuriating!!!

Webinar - Building a Planetary-Scale Earth-Observation Data Cube in Zarr

Next Tuesday Earthmover is hosting a webinar on Building a Planetary-Scale Earth-Observation Data Cube in Zarr Date: Tuesday, April 16, 2024 @ 12pm EST registration link As regulars on this forum will note, I’ve recently gone on a deep dive into how to efficiently build massive-scale harmonized earth-observation data cubes in Zarr using open data. These workflows are common at big satellite data providers and processors (think NASA, Planet, etc.) But thanks to open data and serverless cloud...

Decided to publish these two blog posts (that have been sitting in review for 4 months) in their original form. Nothing new really, they're basically written versions of my FOSS4G Oceania talk from Nov 2023 (mentioned at https://mastodon.nz/@weiji14/111253234798353977):
