One of the patents relating to the Burroughs Panaplex(tm) flat panel segmented gas discharge (plasma) display is US 3,725,713, issued 1973-04-03, based on continuations of applications dating back to 1970-11-09.
A later development was the SELF-SCAN(tm) flat panel dot matrix gas discharge display, and some patents relevant to that are US 3,886,389, US 3,975,725, and US 4,386,348.

Today's #Panaplex display is the Heathkit GC-1005 digital clock
But it's not just multimeters! Here are some digital thermometers with #Panaplex displays (and a digital panel meter). Made by Jenway, Thermo Electric, and Strainstall. I also have a couple of frequency counters which I'll post photos of later
Here's a close-up of the #Panaplex display on the Data Precision 3500. The instrument has a bank of relays inside for auto range switching, and a BCD interface connector on the rear
But to carry on the #Panaplex theme, how about two digital multimeters: Datron 1057a on the bottom and Data Precision 3500 on the top. Data Precision has a red filter over the neon orange Panaplex displays
After a positive response to the #Panaplex photos, here's a #Nixie tube instrument: the Fluke 8120A Digital Multimeter, introduced in 1972
I do like instruments with #Panaplex displays -- I have quite a few. Maybe I should post more photos of them
I did try “ringing” the Addmaster 01 Hotline number – but strangely no one answered. So I repaired and restored this vintage 1972 Addmaster calculator myself. It uses an early gas discharge “Panaplex” orange display. #VintageElectronics #VintageCalculator #Panaplex
