"È stato per me un piacere ricevere Nathan e Caterina, Catherine, perché era mia intenzione cercare di stemperare il clima che si è creato attorno a questa vicenda. Io non ho né titoli né intenzione di mettere in discussione i provvedimenti dell'autorità giudiziaria, né tantomeno voglio giudicare lo stile di vita di Nathan e Catherine, quello che spero possa essere utile e invitare tutti la mia moral suasion affinché vengano eliminate le rigidità di tutti, in modo da favorire il più possibile il ritorno ad una famiglia unita, come voi la desiderate, con i figli che, come è naturale, possano stare col padre e con la madre dopo che vengano assicurate delle condizioni normali". Così il presidente del Senato, Ignazio La Russa, dopo l'incontro a Palazzo Giustiniani, con Catherine Birmingham e Nathan Trevallion, i genitori della cosiddetta famiglia del bosco. "Sono molto lieto di avere appreso che da parte vostra non vi è nessuna obiezione a che i bambini possano frequentare il doposcuola, che la casa possa avere i servizi igienici che sono richiesti e in sostanza che vi avviciniate molto a quelle condizioni necessarie per una convivenza voluta", dice ancora la seconda carica dello Stato . "Sono fermamente convinto che non vi è maggiore felicità per i bambini che quella di stare col proprio papà e con la propria mamma". "E' quello che io vi auguro e che spero sia possibile, eliminando tutte le rigidità esistenti", ha concluso.
