Before finally settling on Bonnie “Prince” Billy as his musical moniker, Louisville eccentric Will Oldham made Viva Last Blues with a pickup band including Sebadoh’s Jason Loewenstein and Will’s brother Ned. The most accessible of the Palace (…) albums, songs like “More Brother Rides,” “Viva Ultra” and “New Partner” are doom-laden dust narratives framed by band’s semi-improvised country rock.
