Le 22 avril 1988, la prise d'otages de la grotte d'Ouvéa, en Nouvelle-Calédonie, fait la une de l'actualité métropolitaine. La France prend conscience qu'à 17 000 kilomètres de Paris, des Kanaks luttent pour leur indépendance. Ce combat politique prend une dimension violente au début des années 1980 et la tragédie d'Ouvéa représente son paroxysme. Avec ses 25 victimes, ce drame va avoir un impact considérable et marquer le début d'un processus d'émancipation inédit dans l'histoire de France, incarnée par la signature, le 26 juin 1988, des accords de Matignon.
En fait d’#apaisement, il s’agissait de #pacification…
