PhilMeet Kave, the principal female deity on Nukuoro, in the Caroline Islands. It’s slightly larger than life size and I found it incredibly striking. I love how much like modern art this feels, despite having come from a remote island in the 1800s. Auckland War Memorial Museum.

The foundation of one of the “boat” houses on Easter Island, near Hangaroa. Long and very narrow never struck me as a particularly practical or enjoyable shape for a house, so it possibly had some sort of ritual significance.
