My sixth grade social studies teacher, David Miley, flew into a rage and berated me one day, shouting that I would never amount to anything. Two sons of his, a few years behind me in school, went on post-high-school to win contests for growing very large pumpkins. Tales of freakishly large gourds reminds me of that strange family.
