Наконец-то дошли руки сделать репаст или, правильнее будет сказать, смену термоинтерфейса на GPU.

Я уже то ли ещё на lor.sh, то ли уже тут жаловался когда-то, что у меня на высоких нагрузках на GPU вроде некоторых моментов в Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 или запуска инференса какого-нибудь FLUX локально просто напрочь вырубался десктоп.

Какое-то время я не мог понять, что происходит, но потом обратил внимание что GPU под высокими нагрузками неадекватно греется.

Под "неадекватно" я имею в виду 110-113 градусов Цельсия в горячей точке.

В общем, сегодня настал тот день когда я разобрал свою относительно старенькую RX 6800 XT, почистил от старой пасты, которая "убежала" и вместо неё поставил интерфейс с фазовым переходом.

На удивление управился во много раз быстрее, чем планировал. Сорок минут сборки, чистки воздухом и спиртом, замера чипа, вырезания термоинтерфейса, его установки и сборки всего этого обратно.

Результат - отличный, лучше, чем я ожидал.

Под нагрузкой в игре цифры такие:

Было:
GPU Core: 91C
GPU Hot Spot: 113C
Power: 280W
Fan: 1990 RPM

Стало:
GPU Core: 67C
GPU Hot Spot: 83C
Power: 285W
Fan: 1715 RPM

То есть, уменьшились и абсолютные температуры, и дельта между "средней температурой по больнице" и "горячей точкой".

Вместе с этим расслабился и вентилятор.

Booting is a busy time for a computer, on a cold start my laptop (2018 i7-8565U) CPU jumps to 62°C by the time I can log in, then drops to 30°C idle within minutes. Then if I stress it (literally: stress -c 8) it will only get back up to 53°C all cores at 100% after a ~1 second excursion to 72°C.

12°C delta below start up peak CPU temp, 19°C transitory spike starting stress that almost instantly abates.

I wish I had tested it before repasting it with #PTM7950, I'm curious.

I wonder how #PTM7950 compares to other cooling solutions in price to performance ratio.

I mean, I’m all okay with paying for a good paste, pad or sheet that doesn’t dry in 4 years. I’m not okay paying $50 for a square inch.

Status Report: formerly angry, now miffed.

Turns out the heatsink I got for my #RaspberryPi4B has too much clearance for my #PTM7950. Found this out AFTER taking all the measurements, precisely cutting it all out, and sticking it on after multiple failed attempts.

Progress on the Pi has completely halted for the day. I'm going back to learning #hardwarehacking.
