So last week, I was on vacation - finally! One of my wives and I took a cruise ship out to Puerto Rico, and we hit a few ports on the way back.
A few things about our trip in no particular order:
= Apparently I'm thought of as "gentlemanly" because I welcome a woman to the table by rising and I tip my hat and things like that. I just think that politesse is important, particularly when you are on a ship with literally thousands of other people. It's what you do to ensure that societal norms stay in place. And that is not a matter of minor importance.

#uspol People seem to have no freaking idea what is happening in
#WashingtonDC or in almost any aspect of politics in the U.S., even given the fascist regime in place. This is even evident among nominal allies, such as PoC; they seemed ignorant of what "DOGE" actually was or did, or the fact that National Guardsmen conducted checkpoints on DC streets. There is an initial feeling that I should tell everyone to redouble their efforts to reach everyone who hasn't gotten the news yet...but I also feel that many of these are the proverbial "low-information voters" and would not necessarily retain such information if they were given it. It seems to be not so much stupidity (entirely) as a wish not to expend extra cycles on things that they feel would not contribute to immediate short-term gains.
[A corollary to that: easily digestible things seem to have more resonance. You could get an opinion on "The Gulf of America", for example. The whole distraction thing that Trump is doing has an underlying logic.]
= I really want to visit San Juan again and just take in the historical parts of the city. Also, our tour guide in San Juan was until recently living in Maryland and working for USAID; she's now considering a political career now that she is back home - I believe with the Movimiento Victoria Ciudadana. Good for her!
