A comment that I read recently really struck me. That is that fascism doesn't really have an ideology. Rather, it's a method or process of gaining power or domination. The reason that it struck me is that it's so obvious once it's pointed out. On one level, I think, people are trying to make sense of the madness, but this just seems to crystallise the sense that really, there is no sense.

I suppose this shouldn't come as a surprise or a revelation to me. After all, I've been well aware that The Purpose of The System Is What It Does. I guess that it's a form of intellectual nerd sniping when we take the bait of comparing all the playbooks and using them to build up some sort of coherent analysis of who the players are and why they're doing what they're doing and how it fits with known ideologies and existing power structures and our best guesses about the rules by which they operate.

Maybe time to update Alan Moore's comment about conspiracies: not only is nobody in charge, but they don't even have a coherent organising structure.
