Doing some #planetiler #OSM benchmarking, as one does on a Saturday morning. Seems that it's happiewt when you give it about 3x the heap memory relative to the input PBF, any less and it starts flushing the node cache to disk severely impacting performance. Does that match your experience?

This is for a 500MB pbf file converting to #PMTiles using the default profile.

Used #Protomaps and #PMTiles today to generate some high quality wallpapers from city maps. Kinda wanna open source this tool but thinking about packaging and UX

made a quick interactive map of building heights in toronto (2025 data)

big fan of tippecanoe->pmtiles->maplibre->github pages workflow, can pretty easily take a ~300mb .shp like this and render it all in-browser (no fancy db, server, or saas hosting)

Looking more into @jacob and @maprva 's usage of #pmtiles @protomaps for Sanborn map mosaics, and it's pretty fantastic... Huge disk space savings compared to COGs, and I'm assuming it's because empty tiles in PMTiles take up less space (0 space) than in COGs. Ideal for non-continuous coverage. @bdon does that sound right?
