PGConf India 2026 - Review

This was my first time attending PGConf.India. Something I wanted to do for quite a while, heard good things about the conference. but never had a chance before. The conference is well attended, and very vibrant. Good presentations, a lot of questions about *WarehousePG* (the talk I gave) and about *PostgreSQL* in general.

Published the slides for my talk "How we made WarehousePG Open Source (again)" at PGConf India 2026, as usual on my website:

Quick group photo from PGConf India - it's no small feat to get the whole group together! At the conference? Make sure to check out our sessions, and say hi to the team at the booth đź‘‹ #PostgreSQL #PGConfIndia

The shopping mall next to the conference hotel also has a bakery serving ice cream - two places for lunch already, week is getting better by the day!

My former Citus teammate Sumedh Pathak is back at Microsoft, leading our #PostgreSQL #OpenSource contributors team! And he just dropped this blog post about the upcoming #PGConfIndia event (which I am also going to, I'll be giving a talk) in Bengaluru in just 2 weeks time.

Last year there were over 500 people there, the conference was full of bustling energy & interest in #Postgres. I'm curious to see if the vibe is any different this year.

Really appreciate my marketing team's support as they funded a Diamond sponsorship for #Microsoft at PGConf India again this year.

I’m genuinely excited about PGConf India 2026. Over the past few editions, the conference has continued to grow year over year—both in size and in impact—and...

On stage at #PGConfIndia now is Nikhil Sontakke from the #PostgreSQL team at Microsoft presenting to a standing room only crowd on: “Postgres: ServerLESS is more?”

Paraphrasing from Ashutosh Bapat, Nikhil is explaining the complex topic of serverless computing with everyday, familiar examples that touch Indian minds.

My favorite is this classic quote from Nikhil’s talk: “Everything’s well that ends in the WAL”

On the big ballroom stage at #PGConfIndia in Bengaluru is Varun Dhawan from the Azure Database for PostgreSQL team at #Microsoft giving his rather caffeinated & energetic talk about “Using Postgres to locate the best coffee near you!”

And to teach us about how to use #PostgreSQL with vectors for semantic search, Varun used data about local coffeeshops, a local delivery service called Zomato, a cameo by Dora the Explorer, vector comparisons by @pamelafox … and apparently Varun himself had several (!!) coffees before getting up on stage. Lots of #Postgres fun!

Am practicing my talk for #PGConfIndia, to be presented later today here in Bengaluru… a Beginners Guide to Partitioning vs. Sharding in #PostgreSQL! If you are one of the 525 #Postgres people here at PGConf India, I hope you can join me!

Today at #PGConfIndia in Bengaluru, engineering director Sujit Kuruvilla of #Microsoft presented a sponsored keynote on the big stage, talking about “All the Postgres Things at Microsoft”—sharing updates (& demos) of what the team is doing for the #PostgreSQL open source project, for the PG community, and for our managed service customers in the cloud. Hopefully those in the audience who saw Sujit’s talk got the sense of how much our team loves ❤️Postgres.

Shout out to the #PGConfIndia organizers for making this amazing event happen—I’m so glad to be here. 🙏
