Quando il testo sette anni dopo fu finalmente pubblicato in Urss, dove era stato prima censurato, la materia europea che trattava amplificò l'anelito di cambiamento. (Adnkronos) - Elena Kostioukovitch recounts the editorial story of the first novel by Umberto Eco, which she took up for the first time in the secret room of the State Library of Foreign Literature in Moscow in 1981. When the text, seven years later, was finally published in Urss, where it had previously been censored, the European subject matter it dealt with amplified the yearning for change. While later in Russia, the Pendulum of Foucault resonated, in the opposite direction from that intended by the author, with the first germs then beneath the surface of ultra-conservatism. Between the two of Eco’s first novels and their Russian story, there was the hope of openness.
