The Flotilla and the Dishonor

Israel seizes the ships of the Flotilla and everyone suffocates. I imagine what would have happened if Russia had boarded the ships in international waters.

Dear reader, the double standard of the West is the main cause of the contempt for Europe and the United States that is spreading throughout the world. Regarding the latest act of Israeli piracy, the photos and videos show that the crews (including 29 Italians) are handcuffed and made to kneel with their foreheads to the ground. Anyone who doesn’t bend is forced with force. Minister Ben-Gvir arrives and ridicules the hostages, waving the Israeli flag. The images break into the media. At that point, Meloni says that Israeli behavior is unacceptable and asks for apologies from Tel Aviv. But what about it? For more than two years, Meloni has supported Israel completely when it kidnapped and tortured Palestinians by the thousands, not to mention the targeted killings of children and the genocidal holocaust. Last month, Italy and Germany blocked a bland resolution condemning Israel by the EU, because it must never happen, the Jewish State is not touched. And now Meloni pretends to be indignant? It is a horrifying hypocrisy. Meloni's motives are more than evident. After the defeat in the referendum, she realized that the myth of her invincibility was lost and the popularity of her government is plummeting. Therefore, she tries to regain support, as there are less than a year left until the next elections. Even more than lies and broken promises, it is the dishonor that is the hallmark of this government and will be counted by History as such.

Rush to download Ben Gvir, but it's the face of the entire Israeli government.

Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar, responding Wednesday evening to a video of colleague Itamar Ben Gvir walking laughing among blindfolded and kneeling activists in Ashdod, writes on X: “No, you are not the face of Israel.” The same does Benjamin Netanyahu a few hours later: Ben Gvir’s behavior “is not in line with the values and norms of the State of Israel.” From Rome, Sergio Mattarella speaks of a “low level,” Giorgia Meloni and Antonio Tajani demand “immediate apologies.”

The scheme of the false exception holds up for an afternoon. The death penalty for Palestinians tried in military courts, the first battlehorse of Ben Gvir, was approved by the Knesset on March 30 with the solid votes of the Likud party, Netanyahu’s party. The plan of “voluntary migration” from Gaza, reduced by Euro-Med Monitor to the legal scheme of ethnic cleansing, emerged from the security cabinet in March 2025, signed by Defense Minister Israel Katz. The International Court of Justice speaks of plausible genocide. The International Criminal Court, according to Middle East Eye, has already requested sealed arrest warrants for Bezalel Smotrich, Orit Strock and two military officers. Ben Gvir has been back in the coalition since January, having exited after the January 2025 truce, returning in March when the government resumed bombing.

The lawyers of Adalah left Ashdod last night and spread the note: dozens of participants with suspected rib fractures, tasers, rubber bullets in the sea, sexual harassment, hijabs torn from women, three hospitalizations. Seventy-seven on strike for hunger, transferred to the Ktziot prison. Thursday is the hearing for expulsion.

It’s not the face of Israel, the government repeats. It’s the face of its government.

LA NOTIZIA: Flotilla, dopo i video finalmente l’Italia reagisce: Tajani chiede all’Ue sanzioni contro Ben Gvir

Flotilla, Tajani chiede all’Ue sanzioni contro Ben Gvir

Flotilla, after the videos Italy finally reacts: Tajani asks the EU to impose sanctions against Ben Gvir.

It took Ben Gvir’s video to finally get Italy to demand a reaction from the EU towards Israel. However, this reaction has been very timid and contradicts the veto imposed by the Italian government on suspending the agreement between the EU and Israel.

It was Vice President of the Council and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani who announced that the Italian government has asked the High Representative of the EU, Kaja Kallas, to adopt sanctions against the Minister of Security of Tel Aviv, Ben Gvir, after the video in which he mocks and humiliates the activists of the Flotilla.

Flotilla, Tajani asks the EU for sanctions against Ben Gvir

In a post on X, the Foreign Minister explains that he has asked, on behalf of the government, “the High Representative Kaja Kallas to include in the next discussion of EU Foreign Ministers the adoption of sanctions against the Israeli Minister of National Security Ben-Gvir for the unacceptable actions taken against the Flotitta, seizing the activists in international waters and subjecting them to harassment and humiliation, violating the most elementary human rights.”

But, as highlights the leader of the Five Star Movement, Giuseppe Conte, the problem is that only now “there has been indignation, even from our government representatives and at an international level, but what has changed compared to the previous Flotilla mission last October? And above all, I ask myself: what has changed compared to even 70,000 Palestinians killed in a genocide, 20,000 children killed?” According to Conte, the conduct of the Israeli government has been the same for a long time and we are facing an “unacceptable hypocrisy.”

According to the M5s leader “now concrete actions are needed, the talks are at zero, so economic and financial sanctions against Netanyahu, without playing the good and bad boy game between him and Ben Gvir.” In addition to “recovering the Italy-Israel military cooperation agreement and the EU-Israel association agreement, immediately.”

The article Flotilla, after the videos finally Italy reacts: Tajani asks the EU for sanctions against Ben Gvir appears to be the first on LA NOTIZIA.

What Lee’s Netanyahu ‘war criminal’ remark means for South Korea’s diplomacy

The president criticised Israel for ‘going too far’ in detaining two South Koreans who were at sea trying to send aid to Gaza.

South China Morning Post

There has been #international #condemnation of #Israel's #treatment of pro-Palestinian #activists who were on board a Gaza-bound #aid #flotilla intercepted by #Israeli naval forces.

The #US, the #UK, #France, #Italy and #Canada were among the countries which expressed #outrage after far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir posted a video showing himself #taunting activists kneeling with their hands tied behind their backs.

His actions also drew rare criticism from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin #Netanyahu, who said they were "not in line with Israel's values".

A rights group representing the 430 people from more than 40 countries who took part in the #GlobalSumudFlotilla demanded their release.

The flotilla, which carried a token amount of aid, set out to highlight the tough conditions for #Palestinians in war-torn #Gaza. #Israel dismissed it as a "PR stunt at the service of Hamas".

More than 50 boats taking part in the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) set sail from Turkey last Thursday.

On Monday morning, armed Israeli naval #commandos began intercepting the fleet in international waters west of #Cyprus, about 250 nautical miles (460km) from the coast of Gaza, which is under an Israeli maritime #blockade.

The GSF's organisers said all the boats had been intercepted by Tuesday evening, with one managing to get within 80 nautical miles of the Palestinian territory.

They accused Israel of an "illegal, high-seas aggression" and said Israeli commandos had opened fire at six boats, used water cannon, and intentionally rammed one vessel.

The Israeli foreign ministry said no live ammunition was used and insisted it would "not permit any breach of the lawful naval blockade on Gaza".

The ministry also said that all the activists had been transferred to Israeli vessels and that they would be allowed to meet their consular representatives after arriving in Israel.

On Wednesday morning, Israeli rights group #Adalah said the activists were being "taken into Israeli territory entirely against their will" and detained at #Ashdod port.

"The legal team will challenge the legality of these detentions and demand the immediate release of all flotilla participants," it added.

In the afternoon, Ben-Gvir – an ultra-nationalist who, as national security minister, oversees Israel's police force – posted a #video on social media, captioned "Welcome to Israel". It showed him visiting a detention facility at the port of Ashdod where the activists are being held.

He is seen encouraging security personnel as they push down a female activist who shouts "Free, Free, Palestine" as he walks past her.

Ben-Gvir is then shown waving a large Israeli flag next to dozens of activists kneeling on the ground with their hands tied behind their backs.

He tells them in Hebrew: "Welcome to Israel. We are the masters."

Other activists are shown kneeling on the deck of a ship as the Israeli national anthem is played.

The #US ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, called Ben-Gvir's actions "despicable".

UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper said the video showed "totally disgraceful scenes", adding that she had sent a summons to the Israeli embassy to demand an "urgent explanation".

She earlier said the government was "in touch with the families of a number of British nationals involved to provide them with consular support".

Italy, France, Canada, the #Netherlands, #Belgium and #Spain said Ben-Gvir's actions were "unacceptable" and that they had summoned their respective Israeli ambassadors.

#Irish Foreign Minister Helen McEntee said the footage showed that "illegally detained participants", including Irish citizens, were "not in any way being treated with appropriate dignity or respect".

Adalah said the footage demonstrated that Israel was "employing a criminal policy of abuse and humiliation against activists".

In an unusual step, Israel's foreign minister joined the condemnation of his cabinet colleague.

Addressing him on X, Gideon Saar wrote: "You knowingly caused harm to our state in this disgraceful display - and not for the first time."

Ben-Gvir hit back swiftly, saying: "The foreign minister is expected to understand that Israel has stopped being a pushover."

Netanyahu then issued his own rebuke.

"Israel has every right to prevent provocative flotillas of Hamas terrorist supporters from entering our territorial waters and reaching Gaza," a statement said. "However, the way that Minister Ben-Gvir dealt with the flotilla activists is not in line with Israel's values and norms."

The prime minister added that he had instructed Israeli authorities to "deport the provocateurs as soon as possible".

The GSF said the activists on board were carrying #food, #babyformula and #medicalaid for Palestinians in Gaza, where living conditions are dire and most of the 2.1 million population is displaced, despite the ceasefire agreed by Israel and Hamas last October.

The Israeli foreign ministry described Gaza as "flooded with aid", saying more than 1.5 million tonnes of aid and thousands of tonnes of medical supplies had entered the territory over the past seven months.

The UN said last week that many displaced families in Gaza were still forced to shelter in overcrowded tents or severely damaged structures due to the absence of safer alternatives.

Access to basic services remained limited, it added, with inconsistent clean water supplies and impaired waste management systems that could not meaningfully address public health concerns. Pests and rodents are also an issue.

The #UN said #humanitarian operations continued to be #undermined by #restrictions on the import of critical spare parts, back-up generators and other equipment, as well as shortages of essential inputs, including fuel and engine oil.

It noted that only 86% of the humanitarian supplies initially approved by Israeli authorities for entry into Gaza in April were ultimately offloaded at border crossings. The remaining supplies were returned to their points of origin.

The Gaza war was triggered by the Hamas-led attack on southern Israel on 7 October 2023, when about 1,200 people were killed and 251 others were taken hostage.
Israel responded by launching a military campaign in Gaza, during which more than 72,770 people have been killed, according to the territory's Hamas-run health ministry.

Far-right Israeli minister condemned for taunting handcuffed Gaza flotilla activists

France and Italy are among the countries that have criticised a video showing Itamar Ben-Gvir taunting dozens of activists detained at an Israeli port.

To humiliate the defenseless, the fascism of Ben-Gvir, and the moral bankruptcy of Israel.

The shameful scene with the activists of the Flotilla is the logical consequence of that sense of impunity granted to extreme factions when one allows colonists any kind of heinousness against Palestinians in the West Bank. One has to wonder where all the safeguards of society have gone that could have stemmed the messianic and fundamentalist extremism.

International law violated, it’s now the rule.

In April, activists stopped at sea were disembarked in Crete. One hundred seventy-nine were left on a Greek dock, two detained and released after ten days of interrogation. This time it was different. The French and Greek governments informed the organizers that the approximately four hundred arrested on Monday would go directly to prison in Ashdod.

The same action as a month ago, with a harsher consequence. The Israeli navy boarded a civilian fleet, the largest ever launched, in international waters, about two hundred and fifty miles from Gaza: sixty ships, over five hundred people from forty-five countries, the Sumud, the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, and the Turkish association Mavi Marmara. Twelve Italians were arrested, two foreigners resident in Italy. About twenty small boats continue towards Gaza.

Antonio Tajani (FI), Minister of Foreign Affairs, on Tg1 on May 18th: “The Italians will go to Israel and then be expelled.” The boarding was “foreseen.” Guido Crosetto (FdI), Minister of Defense, on the same Tg1: “I wouldn’t call it an attack but a blockade.” The government is registering the arrest as a consular procedure and return route, for them it is clearly not a pirate capture.

Amnesty International, through Erika Guevara Rosas, speaks of “arbitrary detention” and calls for impunity as defined by the International Court of Justice as genocide. The Rome Prosecutor’s Office has been open since the autumn investigating the thirty-six Italians arrested in October, even for torture. In Gaza, since the October ceasefire, 577 Palestinians have been killed as of May 14th according to the Ministry of Health. On May 15th, a raid killed the head of Hamas in the Strip.

In April, a dock in Crete. In May, a cell in Ashdod. The Italian government calls this transition “expulsion” and prepares the return flight. It’s routine business for them.

The article “International Law Violated,” it seems, is now the first on LA NOTIZIA: “the rule.”
