New post: Education

The Shakespeare Oxford Fellowship (US organisation) is providing Oxfordian resources to American high school English teachers. Free lesson plans and more are linked. I presume these would also be useful to non-US teachers, at least generally.

I spend a few moments atop my educational soapbox, then Pearl Jam plays at the end.

Old-school tunes today. Never mind that they chopped off the top of my UFH (Ugly French Hat) on the cover image. As if it wasn't bad enough to begin with.

The 4th Duke of Norfolk's execution warrant, the tangent post to 'Commiserating With Mary'. Part of this reads like the Brave Sir Robin song in Holy Grail. A traitor's death at Tyburn was no fun, though in the end Tom was spared that end.

Tangent: His Head To Be Smitten Off • Shake-Speare’s blog

Elizabeth signed this warrant for the Duke of Norfolk’s execution on 9th Feb 1572, then changed her mind. She did that a lot.

One of the best verbs I ever came up with, in one of the best pentameter lines I ever came up with, and the compositor botched it. There is no second r in *incarnadine*. Bloody typo has annoyed me for 401 years.

Printed pancakes for the end of Shrovetide, and a visit with a First Folio under glass.

(The method in my madness is that it's better to link timely old posts than to keep mum, as I'm new-post-less at the moment.)

393 Years of Printing: Plays to Pancakes on a Pilgrimage • Shake-Speare’s blog

First Folios toured the US in 2016. The Folger doesn't like me but I was nearby so I had a look at one. I also consider some new printing.

(1 of 2) 3rd of March, 1582: Thomas Knyvet and I duelled, blades unbated. He harboured a grudge over my affair with his niece, though the boy Edward was a year old already.

The fight left one of my men dead, and Knyvet and I both injured. Excepting the corpse I had the worst of it, hence my subsequent poetic references to being lame. The wounds healed eventually but I was never free from the halt, and it ached like the devil whenever bad weather approached. [cont'd]

A quick blog post since I am doing a lot of fussing with computers lately, not much time for scribbling/typing. Oh for the days when my tech needs were met by a good penknife and some feathers.

London publisher Cecil Palmer took out an ad in a trade rag a few days before J Thomas Looney's new book about Shakespeare hit the market.

I wrote lyrics at the end of this 2018 post which I *still* have not heard recorded by two someones who can sing them in character for me. Consider this a request for any assistance in finding such a pair of tuneful goons.

Cole Porter wrote witty but now cringey lyrics for a song in 'Kiss Me, Kate'. My revision advocates Oxfordianism rather than date rape.

I updated an old poem by Ovid that I first translated when I was a teenager (don’t let Uncle Arthur fool you). It’s at a bunch of Amazons, with links and details in the blog post. So new the ink's still wet.

It's a book. I've updated my (not Uncle Arthur's) 1567 translation of Ovid's greatest work. Lots of new bits too. All the details are here.
