#SkyWatch #Astrophotography The #OwlNebula is a planetary nebula about 2030 light years from Earth and is the remnants of a star that exploded about 8000 years ago. It is comprised of three layers of hot gas, the largest of which was only discovered in the 1990s and can't be seen in my photo because it is so faint. The gasses are expanding at a rapid rate and will completely dissipate in a few thousand years. #StillLearning

Planetary nebulae looked like small faint planets to early sky watchers but they have nothing to do with planets. They are the gas emissions that occur late in the life cycle of a star that runs out of the hydrogen that makes them bright so the star collapses in on itself. #StillLearning

The Surfboard is a spiral galaxy 25 million light years from Earth. #StillLearning
