So I'll do a little bit of a #pride post for people a little younger. Some info first. I'm 37, divorced, came out in 2017, started HRT in 2020, and I have all my pokebadges of dating men (trans/cis), women (trans/cis) and two different nonbinary people.

-I came out in the first Pride Month of the Trump Administration. It was hell. I almost lost my job, almost got evicted and lost two family members PLUS dealing with the incessant hate from the Government.

You have enough to figure out. I've been fighting this fight since I was 14 years old. Take your time. You have enough going on. Pride is about not feeling ashamed. If you need the closet for safety do so. There is no rush. Let us veterans handle it.

-I lived in a self identity state and moved to a country without self-identity. I had to work and work hard. Like constant overtime. Constant learning. Got gatekept out of HRT once and was almost homeless AGAIN. It took me 3 years of endless missed promotions, missed raises, endless overtime to be able to transition.

It is not easy to transition even in easy states and countries. You have to be ready to fight and fight hard for it. It shouldn't be this way, but
gestures hopelessly society. I've had lots of friends in both the US and Germany that had to lawyer up. You're going to have to fight. Almost certainly.

-HRT saved my life but now I have to think about retirement and menopause when i didn't think I'd make it past 18. It may seem insurmountable and it took me years to get enough money and time and energy to get all my paperwork done but just do it chunk by chunk. You'll get there.... eventually.

-I'm also seeing continued drastic changes almost 4 years in to HRT. The reason you see this 2 or 5 year caps is that is the cap of long term study length.

-I felt not gay enough to be gay the other morning. I am living with/engaged to a nonbinary woman who started with the same parts as me, born the same gender as me, transitioned to a similar gender. I've been out now for 7 years. It's normal to not feel gay or trans enough. Your brain is a butt. Don't listen.

-If you ever feel disheartened understand this. When I was young Elen Degeneres was fired for coming out. I had to sit through the whole thing about Marriage Equality with gay friends under Obama. In Germany Marriage Equality wasn't signed fully into law until 2015.

Religious bigots are scared and our rights aren't old or set in stone. But with the internet and modern architecture we aren't going anywhere. People tried to stone me when I was young. I've dated partners who had partners that were beaten to death.

Times are bad, don't get me wrong but we're not out yet. Tories are losing hand over fist. Republicans also. The AfD here in Germany is fast on the way to a Verbot. The future is uncertain and scary and there will always be pushback to change but that pushback is now a very vocal and sometimes powerful minority. But it's generally temporary.

-People like me will always be there for people like you. I don't have an awful lot of time to spare even for social media these days but I am just around
existing ready to throw hands for anyone that is going to be sexist, homophobic or transphobic. The scary ones exist but people like me do too.

Today in Labor History December 22, 2010: President Obama signed the repeal of the Don't ask, don't tell policy. The 17-year-old law banned LGBTQ people from serving openly in the U.S. military. Now LGBTQ people can serve openly and kill innocent civilians throughout the world for the benefit of American corporations, just like their straight sisters and brothers.

@FAIR Not a bad article but FAIR would have more credibility if it didn't shill for the tankie apologists for Vladimir Putin, who weaponizes #homophobia and whose regime just passed another anti-gay law hot on the heels of the #ClubQ shooting. #Ukraine is not perfect and has its own anti-gay elements but things in #Russia are far worse, where even being #outofthecloset can now apparently mean long prison terms.
@beausterling 2/2 the "save" IMO is 'what-Gay-Liberation-was-saying-since-1950s" and what #LGBT #LGBTQIA + has been saying all along: the if people are closeted (by parent, peers, #church and #state)-> #dysphoria or psychopathology ensue. If people are free to be #outofthecloset #mentalhealth is boosted. We could play it that way but I suspect this #NB #identity is just a cheap shot #lawyer gimmick to be beaten back like any other #fascist #propaganda. Good thread, BTW.

I hope that everyone murdered in the #ClubQ shooting was already #OutOfTheCloset. 🖤

That's an extra layer here I'm not seeing discussed enough.
