Out of the Abyss involves a variety of drow. The adventure (and The Monsters Know What They're Doing) assume stats from the 2014 Monster Manual, which are not available on dndbeyond.
The 2024 Monster Manual omits them. Revised versions appear in Forgotten Realms: Adventures in Faerun.
"Just get a pre-made adventure," I told myself. "It'll reduce your prep time."
(I do like the simpler handling of monster spellcasting in 5.5, but backward compatible it ain't.)
Having read some of Ammann's excellent The Monsters Know What They're Doing, I'd like to explore tactical maneuvering in my upcoming Out of the Abyss campaign. What of materials?
MAPS: I'm thinking a tablet of gridded easel paper. I can make up maps ahead of time for anticipated encounters. I have the *ability* to draw beautifully detailed maps, but not the time. I also want to be able to create new ones on the fly as needed.

Finished my first read-through of Out of the Abyss. This is going to take a LOT of prep (which almost defeats the purpose), but I think I can make it work.
In Out of the Abyss, the PCs start at level 1 and "should be at least 7th level" by chapter 7. Chapters 2-6 can happen "in any order".
Isn't that a problem? Won't some encounters be lethal for a 2nd level party but trivial for a 6th level one?
My players (for this summer) wanted some Underdark. I'm reading Out of the Abyss, and ... I'm not sure running this would be less work than creating something from scratch. I know players always chuck the DM's plans out the window, but this would require a huge amount of prep to even prepare one path.

My Wife's next #dnd campaign is another swing at #OutOfTheAbyss and she's straight up auditioning our characters.
I made a Drow with deep ties to 3rd edition lore. Got details on houses and hierarchy and plan on playing him dead serious. This after years of the entire table dozing off the every time Drowlitics come up.
Since I'm always the comic relief and joke characters, it's gonna be an interesting run. The "bit" is me taking it seriously.
