I’m on page 118 of @pronounced_ing ’s #OurMissingHearts and—while the story is nearly too recognizable for comfort—I’m enjoying how central #libraries are to the story. #AmReading #novels #dystopia #NearFuture

Just finished Celest Ng's Our Missing Hearts.

After initial disappointment (the tone, story and style made me think it was YA, which is OK, but not when I expect A) I was riveted. Once the point of view changes a whole world of delicate thoughts and strong ideas opens up.

The world Ng describes is a fiction but it is scarily realistic. It's not hard to imagine it becoming real, we're halfway there already.

That is a good one. Just finished it about a week ago, have been recommending it to people. #bookstodon #ourmissinghearts #celesteng @kacytillman @bookstodon @academicchatter

Started this #audiobook #ourmissinghearts by #celesteng today. Such beautiful prose. It’s about Bird Gardner, who lives in America under laws meant to “protect American culture.” One day he receives a letter covered in cats from his mother, a Chinese American poet missing for years deemed by the state as unpatriotic. The book documents his search for his mom and his efforts to decode the letter. @bookstodon #currentlyreading #books #reading
