The #31MarchIncident, so named due to the #OttomanEmpire's Rumi Calendar then in use, was a reactionary attempted coup against the #YoungTurk/#CUP government on #ThisDayInHistory in 1909. It led to #AbdülhamitII's fall and the appointment of #MehmedV as a constitutional monarch.

When Britain & France carved up the #OttomanEmpire, they were never intending to leave. But Britain at least hoped for indirect control through proxies, as when it placed the #Hashemite #Abdullah as Emir (later king) of its protectorate #Transjordan on #ThisDayInHistory in 1921.
