"Der Fall Daidalos und Ikaros" von Rolf Scholz (1985). Diese #Skulptur, die #OttoLilienthal zeigt, stand erst im Flughafen Tegel und wurde mit in den #BER umgezogen. Flugpionier Lilienthal baute etliche Flugapparate und glitt damit immer höher, schneller und weiter. 1896 aber brach er sich beim Absturz mit einem seiner Apparate das Genick – nach rund 2.000 erfolgreichen Flug- bzw. Gleitversuchen.

"Der Fall Daidalos und Ikaros" by Rolf Scholz (1985) was originally installed at Tegel Airport and has now found a new home at #BerlinBrandenburgAirport. The #sculpture depicts Otto Lilienthal, the German "father of aviation," who built a series of gliders and pushed the boundaries of flight – gliding further, higher, and faster – until he broke his neck in a hang glider crash in 1896, after around 2,000 successful flight (or rather gliding) attempts.

@spaceflight although this was pasted yesterday already, I would like to correct:

1. First flight: #OttoLilienthal
2. There was a man called #GustaveWhitehead who might have done the first engine-powered flight. Just keep this in mind.
