Not being a part of #Amazon is a big plus.
But #Bookwyrm isn’t really up to anything like #goodreads yet, in several points.

The server seems to be unreliable. I ges donating money would help here.
The dataset is a bit of a mess
But also, their seems to be no manual or set-out rules how to fix a lot of the dataset problems.

Still, i have mostly moved my reading there, and instead of #ospalhReads i am tooting reading stuff as @[email protected] now.

If you liked my #OspalhReads posts, you should follow @[email protected]. I think i will post stuff as comments there from now on.

»dressed in pedal pushers«
So, the thing you use to actually push the pedals is a shoe, right?
Oh, well, »dressed« fits trousers better anyway.

»›The Great Omni-Cognate Neutron Wrangler could talk all four legs off an Arcturan MegaDonkey. Only I could persuade him to go for a walk afterwards.‹«
Looks like I have to reread the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, just to check what else is a modified #idiom I missed.

The etimology for »bitter end« otoh i didn’t believe either, and there the one in #Jackspeak was right.
Wiktionary:
That part of an anchor cable which is abaft the bitts and thus remains inboard when a ship is riding at anchor.

Eh, the »four cannonballs on a brass plate« theory for »brass monkey« and »freezing the balls off a brass monkey« »#Jackspeak« sounded unbelievable, on physical and linguistic grounds. And, sure enuf, everibody else agrees that that is a tall tale.

»I’ve avoided doctors since (…) my mother insisted she’d found someone “perfect,” a chiropractor«

So the narrator doesn’t go to fisicians and hasn’t got a general practitioner to go to because eir mother made eir go to a chiropractor. 🤦🏼
Yeah, well. Those arn’t proper fisicians.

Eh. I ges that is something the author should hav known.
In the one article actually talking about »nuclear language« specifically, the author gets the #triad wrong
The triad is:
• land based nuclear missiles
• submarine based nuclear missiles
• airborne nuclear gravity boms and stand-off missiles

#OspalhReads #Nukespeak #Chilton

Took me quite some while to find the correct term »edited volume«/»edited collection« for what the British #Nukespeak is.

•Anthology, no, that is for fiction, and works published earlier
•Miscellany: That one is all over the place
•Primer: no, but i had to check what it is
•Polygraph: Should be the opposite of Monograph, but isn’t
•Compendium: close, but not quite
•Proceedings: yeah, no. There was no conference
