Orcas Island WA 21 March 2026. After 2 atmospheric rivers, we enjoyed a day of sunny temperate weather. Mountain Lake has a high water level now. Sprocket's beach and his second favorite rest spot were under water. His perch was not so he enjoyed a moment of sun, eyes closed. At high water mark, the streams were full and the water flowed over the dam. Nice day out. #OrcasIsland #MountainLake #Photography #SilentSunday.

When the afternoon softened and the sun hit just right, Hops on the Rock found its rhythm—good music, great pours, easy laughter, and no rush at all.
Until next year, Hops on the Rock. 🍻

Between two and four in the afternoon, when the day softens and the sun hangs just right, Hops on the Rock found its stride.
Laughter drifted easily across the grounds, carried by live music that felt less like a performance and more like a shared heartbeat. Volunteers moved through it all with practiced warmth—smiling guides in this small, fleeting city of beer and joy. The scent of good food lingered in the air, and every pour told a different story: bright, bold, unexpected, memorable.
These last couple of hours weren’t about rushing or checking boxes. They were about staying a little longer than planned, raising one more glass, and realizing that the best moments of travel—like the best festivals—are rarely the loudest ones, but the ones that make you feel quietly glad to be exactly where you are.
Until next year, Hops on the Rock. 🍻

A beautiful day, generous people, and the quiet joy of volunteers and attendees all clearly happy to be there. One worth remembering.

Field notes from Orcas Island 📓🍻
Hops on the Rock felt like one of those rare, golden days you want to press between the pages and keep. The island showed up in full beauty—soft light, salt air, and that unmistakable feeling of being exactly where you’re meant to be.

What stayed with me most was the people. Volunteers moving with purpose and joy, attendees lingering with smiles and full glasses, conversations unfolding easily like old friends finding each other again. It felt shared, intentional, and deeply alive.

Still thinking about it. Still grateful for it.

Obstruction Pass Orcas Island WA 30 November 2025. This little guy was pecking away at the bark of a tree snag. Probably a Pileated Woodpecker. #ObstructionPass #OrcasIsland #Videography #Photography
Obstruction Pass Orcas Island WA 30 November 2025. An unusually sunny afternoon made for a nice walk through a lodgepole pine forest to the bluff with Pacific madrone and wind contorted Douglas fir overlooking the pebble rock beach with blinding sunshine. Close up of the amazing Pacific madrone. #ObstructionPass #OrcasIsland #Photography #SilentSunday
