I submitted my comments against the Reflect Orbital and SpaceX plans! It always takes a little while to write letters, but the instructions for submitting are very good (and needed). It's terrible to think about losing the night sky. It felt good to do something about it.
Amazing how a demonstrably bad idea can still pull in massive funding.
SpaceX's orbiting data center is one such idea. Space isn't "cold", it's a vacuum, the same thing that makes high-performance insulated tumblers work so well. In orbit, shedding heat will be a bigger problem than any faced on earth, such as supplying electricity.
Space‑based data centers are turning sunlight into power and the vacuum of low‑Earth orbit into natural cooling, letting AI workloads run without ground permits. Companies like Axiom Space, Kepler Communications and Skyloom Global are building orbital data centres linked by inter‑satellite links. Could the future of computing be up there?
