A United Launch Alliance #Atlas V #rocket ignites its RD-180 main #engine and begins to take off to carry the S.S. John Glenn #Cygnus cargo ship to the International #Space Station.
After an engine failure on an Antares rocket caused #OrbitalATK to modify its #launch #vehicle.
In the interim, they chose #ULA’s #AtlasV to carry the #JohnGlenn to the #ISS.

A United #Launch Alliance #Atlas V #rocket carrying a #Cygnus cargo ship to the International Space Station.
After an #Antares rocket exploded shortly after lightoff, Orbital-ATK purchased launch services from #ULA for their cargo #spacecraft, and then another.
This mission, OA-7, was the first flight of the improved Cygnus. Each vehicle is named, and the #OA7 mission was named “SS John Glenn.”

After a #launch “mishap,” #Orbital #ATK bought a #ULA #Atlas V launch to carry their #Cygnus #COTS #spacecraft to deliver supplies to the International #Space Station.
The United Launch Alliance’s #AtlasV #rocket’s first stage under-performed, but the #Centaur upper stage was able to deliver the vehicle into the correct orbit.
Here, a #shock cone forms around the nose of the Atlas V as it passes through #clouds.
