Hi Friends!

I'm part of a new project with lots of rad #archivists, #OralHistorians, #publicHistorians, and others:

The Southern Memory Workers Collaborative

The central idea is that our #movements need #memoryworkers now more than ever. However, the barriers to learning the skills of #archival science, #oralhistory, and related fields remain significant, especially in the #Southern U.S.

We're looking for ways to increase capacity in the region.

Any #SouthDakota #oralhistorians on this app? I may have an interesting job to pass along concerning the Wind Caves.

It would require too much travel for me, but could be ideal for a local historian who lives nearby and has spare time.

If you know of anyone who may fit this description feel free to pass it along! The contractor that reached out to me has a deadline of June 27, and itโ€™s a cool gigโ€”just not right for me.

Question for #archivists, #librarians, #historians, #glam, #culturalHeritage professionals, #oralHistorians and related history/memory-oriented folks out here in the fedi:

Do you use the term โ€œmemory workerโ€? If so, what does this mean to you?

Iโ€™ve been using it (and hearing it) as a useful generalized term to include all folks who work in history/memory fields

Really curious if itโ€™s widely used and if so, with which groups, and if there are any meanings I might be missing

Thanks! ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ

From @SolidarityHistory, this project is an attempt to learn from #journalists, #oralHistorians, #communityHistorians, and #archivists, and to develop a definition of solidarity history grounded in experience and practice. ๐Ÿ””๐Ÿ””
